Materials, supplies and skilled labor are offered to veteran homeowners at cost, plus a reasonable administration fee.  Homeowners are encouraged to begin saving as soon as they are accepted into the program to help cover cost. They are also encouraged to seek financial support from other sources; for example: veterans groups, churches, etc.  Once the homeowner has paid 50% cost, Habitat will begin the repair(s), and the remaining balance is due at completion.

Applicants who wish to participate in Project Patriot must:

  • Be a veteran and own/reside in a home in need of repair (no rental properties).

  • Provide Honorable Discharge documents or DD Form 214.

  • Possess of be willing to acquire current homeowners insurance.

  • Reside within the service area of Habitat for Humanity of Marion County.

  • Fall below 80% of the combined median household income in Marion County.

  • Be up-to-date on mortgage and property tax payments.

  • Agree to partner with Habitat in all aspects of the project.

  • Agree to cost re-capture agreement and small down payment before the start of the project.

The effects of today’s economy, along with the growing number of combat veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, have made the transition back into the civilian work force very difficult. “The Combat Veterans to Careers” organization has teamed with the local community, colleges and Veterans Affairs offices to assist veterans and their families by helping them acclimate into a supportive community and ready them for a successful career.
